Malton Local Artist Exibit Feb 21

Malton Gallery showcases the talent of local artists every third Sunday, serving refreshments including fine Essencha tea. There will also be door prizes! This month features Ben Norton.

Ben Norton is a figurative painter. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Ben came to Ohio to study at the University of Dayton. This past May, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, concentrating in painting and minoring in religious studies.

Ben has worked in a variety of media in the past, but for the past few years his focus has been on painting in particular. His process is very methodical in its application, working first with a thin layer of washed out acrylic paint, then building up with thicker layers of oil paint. Occasionally the process also involves working charcoal linework into the composition as well, resulting overall in a lively and textured piece.

Ben's work focuses on public expression and the development of identity. His paintings stand on the tenet that every individual cultivates a personal religion or philosophy that he or she then attempts to reflect in daily behavior. These beliefs are reflected in the actions and conversations of every person, and in Ben's paintings, they appear through a kind of tribal body-paint. The figures always appear in vivid color, frequently caught in candid moments of introspection or intimate interaction.

3-6 pm Sunday, December 20, Malton Gallery, 3804 Edwards Road, Norwood (across from Rookwood Pavilion).

More info can be found here .
